[IC Information]
Character Name: Evey Hammond
Series: V for Vendetta
Gender: Female
Age: 17ish
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: For the first part of the story, Evey is a waif-like 16 year old with curly hair that reaches her shoulders. She has brown eyes and her hair is goldish-brown. She is normally dressed in street clothes, somewhat dirty because of her poverty. After a period of time, her appearance changes a bit. In the second part of the movie, while her attire remains the same, her hair changes drastically. She spent a period of time in a fake prison, set up by V in order to cleanse her from fear, and as part of that, her head was shaved by the fake prison guard in order to get her to believe that she was really in a prison. Throughout the rest of the story, she is still seen in normal street clothes, but her hair is still gone, although it is shown growing back.
Personality: Like her appearance, Evey's personality is split between pre and post 'prison' time. In the beginning, she comes across as naïve. When she first meets V, she is trying to find work as a prostitute at 16, because she doesn't have enough money to live, she's very uncertain and doesn't know what she's doing, gets caught by a 'fingerman' and V saves her from being assaulted by them. While she's in the Shadow Gallery for the first time, readers see that she is very naïve about the past of England, being brought up in the fascist government that had destroyed most traces of what had been before. She's scared of being abandoned in the beginning, telling V that she was scared that he wouldn't return after she first met him. This seems to stem from when her mother died and her father was taken from her and never returned. Her naivety keeps showing up while she's still with V in the beginning, because she wants to help him because he's helping her. But, when she gets the chance to help him she doesn't realize what he's going to have her do to help him. She dresses up as a young girl to trap a priest so V can kill him, and after the fact she realizes what he did, and is ashamed of her part of it. It seems that she may be this way because she believes that V is her father, or that he fancies him.
Then, V seems to let her go back out of the Shadow Gallery, and this is when her personality begins to change. She lives with a man named Gordon, who is also her lover, and believes that things are going to be all right. But, then she is seemingly arrested (but it's a sham by V) and tortured to make her stronger. She thinks it's because the government wants information on V, and won't give them the information due to a letter that she finds in her cell. It's from a woman named Valerie, and reading what happened to her gives Evey strength to not give in. The experience in prison changers her for the better, she doesn't fear death or the government anymore. After being set free, she's angry at V, but soon forgives him, realizing that she's free from the government control at this point. Now Evey doesn't fear the government and is less childish than before, showing this by taking some of the child like things from her room in the Shadow Gallery. V had used the prison experience to make Evey into a person that he could feel confident in becoming the next V if he were to die…
Abilities: She has the ability to put up with/is as used to V as someone who isn't V himself can get…which is an amazing feat in itself. Plus, since she's post-book, she can pass herself off as V if she needs to, although with V around, she probably won't need to do that.
Weaknesses: She's perfectly human. Susceptible to crabs, gun shots, and anything that could kill/injure. As for mental weaknesses, she's still very trusting, easily trusting someone she probably shouldn't trust, especially if she thinks that the person is connected to her parents somehow. She also wants to help people who helped her somehow, even if it means doing something 'illegal' in order to make the score even. Evey also demonstrates anger issues, mostly towards V, but if prodded she would probably be the same with others.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider
History: Evey grew up near Shooters Hill, part of south east London. When she was young, she lost both of her parents. Her mother died after a war (she had been sick from the Thames flood) in the 80s and her father was arrested and killed by the fascist dictatorship (Norsefire) that took over after the war ended. She was sent to a youth hostel, and forced to work in factories. When we first meet Evey, she's a poor woman, and becomes a prostitute. But, the first night she is on the streets, her first customer is a Fingerman, a member of Norsefire's secret police. This is when she first meets V. V saves her from being raped by the Fingerman. After allowing her to join him in watching his explosion of Parliament and Big Ben, he takes her to his hideout, the Shadow Gallery.
Evey soon comes to trust V, showing this by confiding in him about her past and the death of her parents. He comforts her, and she soon is dependent on him for safety and security. When she asks him if there is a way for her to repay his kindness, he has her dress up as a young girl and assist in the murder of a bishop. She feels guilty over the part that she played in the bishops murder, and realizes that V is much more sinister of a person then she first realized.
Evey leaves the Shadow Gallery, and she is soon taken in by an older man named Gordon Deitrich, who is a member of an organized crime group, and who later becomes her lover. He is murdered by a gangster, and when Evey tries to get revenge, she is captured by a Fingerman and sent to jail. She is tortured by the police because they know of her original connection to V, and want to know information. While she is in jail, she is given (by another prisoner) a letter written by a "Valerie Page" that tells of Valerie's live and how she was imprisoned and killed because she was a lesbian. This letter inspires Evey, and she doesn't give in to the torture and interrogations. When she finally says that she would rather die than give up the information on V, she is set free…much to her surprise.
Later, she discovers that V had set up the entire prison, and put Evey through what had made him into "V." She starts off furious, but later understands and accepts her identity and newly found freedom from the system. Soon after, V is shot and killed by Detective Finch, and he leaves Evey with confusing parting words, which she understands to mean that she is to take up the role as V. After the original V's death, we see another V standing above the streets of London announcing that 'he' is alive and well. It is later revealed that this V is Evey, and she sends off her mentor into a "Viking Funeral" in a bomb loaded underground car, blowing up 10 Downing Street.
